Indiana Jones Went There, So Why Shouldn’t I?

I caught the tail end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on late night television the other night, and it got me to thinking. The final temple location that they shot has always struck me as an amazing site, and ever since I first saw it I’ve wanted to visit. With a bit of help from Wikipedia, I found out about Petra.

Going from there I decided it’d be fun to put together 50 things I’d love to do in my travel lifetime. A sort of “bucket list,” if you will. Only I hope to do all these things before I’m on the verge of death. With that said, here’s what I came up with for my travel life list:

  1. Hike the Inca Trail, trekking under a full moon to arrive at the Sun Gate at sunrise.
  2. Set foot on every continent.
  3. Ride the Trans-Siberian Railroad.
  4. Ride a motorcycle across China.
  5. Go sky diving.

  • Wow, your bucket list could have very well been my own! Great stuff! Although I’m proud to say I have already crossed of a number on yours! :)

  • I think everyone should come up with a list like this one, 50 things to do in your travel lifetime. I may even have to borrow a few from your list. Thanks for this post!

  • Motorbike across the Americas definitely cool.

Visit Petra. It’s an amazing place. Look up the Bedouin night tour. It’s commercialized but the experience of walking through the Siq under the moon is lovely.

If you get to Jordan check out Wadi Rum. Very cool place.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys! I’ve decided to turn this into a page for the blog, and I’ll keep it updated when I add something or am able to complete one of the items!

  • #51 – Battle Me to the Death While Riding a Megaladon into the Sunset.

  • I love your list! I definitely need to do a similar thing. We’ve got a lot to-dos in common.

One on mine is to see a performance at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. We’ve seen a practice and it was so great. The Cliffs of Moher and Ireland’s Eye near Howth are amazing in Ireland. There are also parts of the good ol’ USofA I love such as Haystack rock on Cannon Beach Oregon.

  • I’m OK with everything on your list except the motorcycle part… one small “incident” and the rest of your list is finished. Your loving and level-headed father.

  • Love the list! I have done 26 so far and will soon complete most of them and quite a few more of my own!

What I think is really special is I get to do these things with my child and husband, the two people most dear to me! We are into our 3rd year of an open ended world tour & loving every moment of it!

We travel slow and mostly by land or sea, but so far we have been to 4 continents, 28 countries & taken every possible mode of transportation.

You must do an overnight in the Sahara in a nomad tent ( not a tour), see a bullfight, do Semana Santa in Seville, go to the Ice Hotel in Sweden, ( eat reindeer meat while there.yum), do a blue cruise on the Turquoise Riviera in Turkey, Stay in a 5000 year old cave in Cappadoccia, Go to the tannery in Fez, see the bone church in Hallstatt, Austria, eat sea food in Galicia, See the fjords in Norway & eat whale meat, pick grapes in Burgundy, Alsace or Bordeaux, See Pompeii & Ephesis, etc etc etc

These are just a few of the things that we have done & hardly make a dent on what we have seen & done. No body can see it all, but just give it your best shot!!

  • Awesome list, I wish you good luck on your adventures!

I’m an American currently on extended stay in Easter Europe, so when I get done here, I’ll be able to cross at least one item off of my own list.
